Ms. Cox

Principal, Emily Cox

Greetings, Enka-Candler families! I am looking forward to partnering with you to support your child at Enka Intermediate.
I was born and raised in the southwestern Virginia mountains. After earning my bachelor's degree at Emory & Henry College, I moved to the Asheville area and began my career as an educator in the Enka-Candler community in 2001. I have proudly served this community in that capacity ever since that time. I spent 15 years as a classroom teacher at the elementary and middle school levels. After earning my MSA at Western Carolina University, I had the pleasure of serving as an administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Not only do I work in this community, but I live here and have raised my children here. My son, Aiden, and daughter, Elise, both attend Enka High School and have gone through the Enka district schools. I love to read, hike, ski, and listen to music!
I care deeply about the success of this community's children, and I look forward to continuing my work here. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me by phone (828) 255-1380 or by email:

Asst. Principal, Scott Lister

Hello Enka Intermediate staff, parents, and students!  I am Scott Lister and I am thrilled to be a part of the Enka community and look forward to a great start-up in August.  I am very excited to continue to learn and grow as a leader and to support families, students, staff, and the administrative teams as a half-time Assistant Principal at Koontz Intermediate and Enka Intermediate Schools!

About me:
After receiving my B.S. degree in Communication Disorders at University of Central Florida, I acquired my Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Florida State University, then I started my Ed.S. leadership degree at University of South Florida before finishing it at Western Carolina University.

After graduating, I worked for 3 years in my hometown of St. Petersburg, FL, in several medical settings and at Sanders Exceptional School as a Speech-Language Pathologist.  I have been with Buncombe County schools for a total of 18 years.  I started as a Speech-Language Pathologist at Oakley Elementary School in 2002 and transitioned to work in leadership as Assistant Principal at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary in 2007.  I spent 6 years at SH-V, and have enjoyed the last 7 years as an Assistant Principal at Glen Arden Elementary.

I met my beautiful wife Lisa at UCF in Orlando ........ and we have 2 pretty incredible boys-  Ethan who is a high school senior at Nesbitt Discovery Academy, and he is trying to guard against Lola stealing a bite of his cupcake...

...and Nash who is a sophomore at TC Roberson living with bed head syndrome this summer during our beach trip:)

and lastly... meet "Patch" our pup who we enjoy taking for hikes in the mountains:)

It is with positive energy and enthusiasm that I look forward to serving both Enka and Koontz Intermediate School communities as a 50/50 half-time Assistant Principal.  I am very excited to continue to learn and grow as a leader in the community and to be able to support families, students, staff, and the administrative teams at both schools!  Spending half of my time at Enka Intermediate and the other half with Koontz Intermediate will present some challenges, but I will strive to support both schools with effective and impactful leadership.
