FEBRUARY IS HEART HEALTH MONTH IN PE
Students were able to dedicate their jumping to someone they know who has heart disease or has passed away from heart disease. Activities our students participated in included the Endurance Club Challenge. Students attempted to jump without making a mistake for 1:00, 2:00 or 3:00 minutes! This is no easy task! If students succeeded, they received an endurance club bracelet, and wrote their name on the endurance club poster. These posters were the most full they have been in years! I am so proud of our students for their hard work and challenging themselves to do something very hard.
Students learned how to turn a long rope, jump a long rope as well as how to run into the rope while it was turning! Students loved "Go through school" in which they would run in and see how many grades they could make it to before "failing a grade." Students had to do this one grade level at a time! Another challenging yet adrenaline rushing activity!!!
We ended the unit with some jump rope stations which included: Long jump (tested how far they could jump)/Flag jump (tested how high they can jump), hippedy hops and spooners, Long rope activities, skip its/hula hoops/thunder sticks, basic jumps and partner jumps.
We all learned that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world and 10 minutes of jumping rope is just as beneficial as running for 30 minutes!
